R4 - designed to make life more exciting

The essence of good design is a product that not only functions well but looks good too. This adaptor fits the bill on both counts. It is a similar shape to the game cards that are made for this machine, for the very good reason that it fits in the same slot, and this also means it blends into the console design well. As far as functionality goes, there are three physical components to an R4 card / adaptor. The actual adapter which is the piece that fits into the game slot, a micro SD memory card and a USB reader for the memory card. The memory card is where all the software is installed, from the basic system that drives the adaptor, to any games, music or videos that you wish to store on the card for use with your DS machine. What it does is give you access to many more games that would otherwise not run on this console.

Also, for computer programmers, you can write your own games and play them by loading them onto the memory card. Writing games is a very complicated business of course, and for those of us who are not up to the task, you can still get access to games written by others, that you would not be able to play without the r4 adaptor. You could even have software written to help you design your own kitchen if you so desired. Although it is nice to be able to move things around on a computer screen to give yourself a good idea of how your kitchen would look with various layouts, it’s always advisable to have the final plans drawn up by a professional, or your fitted units may not fit as well as you had hoped. The R4 adaptor is available from various sources on the internet, but it is best to purchase one that comes with the basic software that is needed for the operation of the adaptor already installed.

Also it is a good idea to buy from a company that is in the same region as you, to ensure that the card will run English language software. You can find cards with two, four or eight gigabytes of memory, which should be plenty for most games, and enough to fit ten or so films on at a time. You will find that the R4 adaptor works with the DS and DS lite consoles; you will need a different card for the DSi console. The USB reader mentioned earlier allows you to plug the memory card into a USB slot on your computer and transfer files to and from the card, whether they be games, music or video files. With this reader you can obviously store a lot more than eight gigabytes worth of files on your computer and load them onto the card when you wish to use them. For a very small piece of equipment, the R4 gives you a lot of extra functionality.
